👋 Hi, I’m Maxine Marshall! My husband and I retired to the beautiful shores of San Felipe, Baja California 🏖️ after moving from Canada 🍁. Soon after, we joined the Scorpion 4WD Club 🦂🚙. 

On one of our adventures to Algodones, my husband found a handmade copper scorpion 🧡. When we returned a couple of years later to buy another, the artist was gone…

That sparked a passion in me! 🔥 I made it my mission to learn how to create scorpions myself. Once I perfected the design, I began crafting earrings 💎, trees 🌳, and more. Word spread, and soon I was getting custom requests for special colors and sizes 🎨. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a joyful hobby that now fills my days with creativity ✨.

All of my materials are inspired by San Felipe’s natural beauty 🌊🌴—from locally found wood, stones, and shells, to leftover wire from electrical work 🔌. I love seeing how a simple bundle of wire transforms into art 🎨—and even more, I treasure the joy it brings when someone finds the perfect spot for their one-of-a-kind piece 🥰.

My husband and I love sharing our lives between Percebu, Mexico, and Tennessee, USA. Both places inspire me with their beauty, culture, and sense of community.

For me, creating is more than a hobby—it’s therapy. Whether I’m designing fairy lamps, crafting wall art, or making genuine gemstone jewelry, each piece is made with love and intention. The greatest joy comes when one of my creations finds its way into someone’s home or is worn proudly by friends and patrons.

For over 20 years, Terry has been transforming vintage treasures—pairing turquoise beads 💎 with shining silver. Recently, she discovered the art of wire wrapping, creating unique gemstone pieces in copper and silver ✨.

🎨 Debbie Sterling’s artistic journey began at an early age, weaving together words, colors, and images through poetry, painting, and teaching photography at the School for Creative and Performing Arts.

Over time, her creativity expanded into glass fusion and mosaics, where she draws inspiration from the desert and the ocean. Her work blends natural motifs with diverse art forms, creating pieces that capture both movement and stillness in the natural world.

During Covid, Joyce Marcisz and Cindy Coe discovered the magic of Diamond Art Crafts—and instantly fell in love. What began as a personal hobby quickly grew into something bigger when she shared her sparkling creations with family and friends. 💎

Soon, others wanted to join in the fun. Today, about 10 ladies in San Felipe gather to create Diamond Art together, inspiring one another with their creativity and designs. From coasters, greeting cards, keychains, and magnets to dazzling wall art, each piece is handmade with patience and joy. Even leftover diamonds find new life in custom designs! 🌸

With over 30 years of experience in ceramics 🎨👐, Cathy has been honored with numerous awards 🏆 for my work. I studied ceramic techniques in both San Francisco 🌉 and San Diego 🌊, developing expertise in custom pieces ranging from flower pots 🌸 to functional wares 🍵. Her specialty is clay piping, a unique technique I’ve mastered over the years.

Cathy and her husband, hand-paint 🎨✨, and fire all of our creations here in San Felipe, Baja California 🌴☀️, where they have been happily retired for more than 15 years. In addition to creating original works, she also offers ceramic classes 📚👩‍🏫, sharing her passion and knowledge with others who want to explore the art of clay. 🏺💖

Dana Morton is the artist behind Earthborne Art, where clay meets memory and heritage. 💫 Her journey began while planning her wedding 💍, when she pressed her grandmother’s handmade linens into clay to create keepsake dishes. It was her way of letting them be part of the day—even though they had passed. The pieces were a heartfelt success! 💕

Since then, Dana has been on a joyful treasure hunt 🧵✨—scouring flea markets, yard sales, and antique shops for vintage linens and textiles. Each fabric carries history, and Dana preserves its delicate beauty by giving it new life in clay. 🌿

Her work has been showcased in galleries and gift shops throughout the Sierras ⛰️, including the iconic Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite 🏞️. Through every creation, Dana honors the artistry of generations past while offering timeless pieces that can be cherished for years to come. 🌸

All proceeds are donated directly back to San Felipe Lions Club.

Cat has always been a self-taught creative ✂️✨, balancing her artistic passion while raising a family 👩‍👧‍👦 and working full-time. Along the way, she shared her love of art 🎭 by teaching adult education classes at night school.

In 2024, Cat and her husband embraced a new adventure 🚙🌴, moving to San Felipe, Baja California, with only what could fit in the back of their vehicle. Now happily retired 🌞 and settled into the Baja lifestyle, she has dedicated herself fully to her lifelong passion—mixed media and collage art 🎨🖌️.

Mixed Media Art allows Cat to experiment with multiple forms of expression 🎨🖼️—acrylics, watercolor, oils, pastels, charcoal, photography, and digital techniques—layered to create vibrant and unexpected results.

Collage Art holds a special place in her heart ❤️✂️. Cat designs most of the papers she uses by painting new and recycled papers ♻️📜, vintage book pages 📖, and other materials. Each cut, arrangement, and glued fragment becomes part of something entirely new 🌟. By creating her own papers, Cat ensures every piece is one-of-a-kind 🌈, rich with depth, texture, and storytelling.

It’s always been hard for me to call myself an “artist.” ✨ Painting is something I do for joy 💛—not as a career, but as a life-giving passion. I began painting in 2014, in my 70s 🎂, as life slowed down here in beautiful Baja 🌴 and I sought a creative outlet.

Self-taught 🎓 (with YouTube as my teacher and countless artists as guides 🎥), I’ve explored color 🎨, value, shading, and light across exact copies, impressionistic works, and abstract expression. Each painting is an adventure in learning and self-discovery. 🌊

Merkel McLendon is an artist whose travels have shaped his vision and practice. Wherever he goes, he sees beauty in the overlooked—objects ready to be repurposed and given new life. ♻️

Inspired by water and its inhabitants 🐟, his art often reflects the rhythms of oceans, seas, and rivers. Found object art, for Merkel, is more than assembling materials—it’s a ritual. The act of searching, cleaning, and preparing discarded items is intimate and intentional, each object placed to create harmony and spark a response in the viewer ✨.

Beyond assemblage, Merkel explores oil painting 🎨, acrylics, ceramics 🏺, and photography 📸. His work has been exhibited in Phoenix, Arizona 🌆, Marine City, Michigan 🌾, and in his beloved San Felipe, Mexico 🌴.

A lifelong artist, Amanda loves sharing her passion for nature 🌿 through oil paint 🎨, gold leaf ✨, natural pigments 🌸, and more.

 Pam Ferguson is a part-time resident of San Felipe’s South Campos 🏝️ and a dot painting artist who transforms everyday objects into vibrant works of art. She has participated in several art shows in San Felipe, Baja California, as well as Carlsbad, California.

Her medium is dot painting mandalas 🔵🌸 on small tables, coffee mugs ☕, jars, and plaques. Each table features a hand-painted wooden top created with acrylics 🎨, mounted on metal legs, and finished with clear enamel—making them both beautiful and durable for indoor or covered outdoor spaces 🪑🌿.

Pam discovered her passion for this meditative art form during the Pandemic 🕊️, while enjoying the peace, serenity, and beauty of the Sea of Cortez 🌊 with her husband. For her, dot painting is a practice of zen-like relaxation 🧘‍♀️, and she delights in sharing the joyful results with appreciative buyers 💜.

Pedro Camacho Gutiérrez, affectionately known in the Port of San Felipe as “El Perico” 🦜, is both a beloved community figure and a celebrated painter. A graduate of the School of Fine Arts at the Casa de la Cultura in Mexicali 🎓, Pedro has devoted more than 40 years to enriching the cultural landscape of his hometown through art.

His creativity can be seen across San Felipe 🇲🇽 in iconic works, including the crocodile sculpture on the San Felipe Highway 🐊, the monumental boardwalk letters 🌴, and countless murals that brighten community spaces. From San Felipe Brewing 🍻, Baja Sun ☀️, and Second Chance 🏠 to the Lions Club 🦁 and local schools 📚, his vibrant murals reflect both his talent and his deep love for people.

In 2022, Pedro began dedicating himself fully to realistic landscape painting 🌄. Even while facing health challenges and disability, he continued with courage and passion 💪❤️. Rather than slowing him down, these challenges inspired him to embrace art as both healing and livelihood—supporting his recovery one brushstroke at a time 🖌️.

Today, El Perico remains a cornerstone of San Felipe’s artistic identity 🌟: a kind-hearted neighbor 🤝, a resilient spirit ✨, and an artist whose work tells the story of a community he has always called home 🏡.

Trained in oil painting, Cheryl Weiss 🖌️ brings patience, precision, and deep artistic curiosity to every piece she creates. While her early work focused on oils, her creative path took a new turn when she began painting steer skulls — each one sourced locally from the Baja region.

🪶After experimenting with oils on skulls, Cheryl discovered her true medium in acrylics, where she could explore texture, color blending, and dimension more freely. Each skull takes weeks to complete and becomes a unique fusion of paint, pattern, and adornment. ✨

She embellishes her work with feathers, beads, and decorative elements using weather-resistant adhesives, ensuring longevity while maintaining an elegant, handcrafted aesthetic. Although durable enough for outdoor display, Cheryl prefers her pieces to be showcased indoors, where their rich details and energy can truly be appreciated. 💫
